Tinos: Dovecotting

Behind the village of Tarambados, nestled among the pomegranates, we found a little green valley scattered with dovecotes. The island of Tinos is known for these little pigeon houses that dot the island. Probably introduced by the Venetians, they made up an important part of the islanders’ livelihood. Though no longer much in use, they are a trademark of Tinos and one of its most beautiful elements.
